Festival Opening Service
All welcome to our opening service in the magnificent setting of St Giles’ High Kirk on Edinburgh’s iconic Royal Mile.
Exploring Sacred Space 1
Just ten minutes walk from the Royal Botanic Garden, this beautiful church was designed by Scotland's 'premier architect', Robert Rowand Anderson, and opened in 1888.
Tango Mass & Magnificat The Mackintosh Choir
Glasgow’s award-winning Mackintosh Choir, director Au Arias. Arias’s Tango Mass was premiered in Glasgow in 2024 to wide acclaim. Recital includes world premiere of his newly composed Magnificat.
Exhibition: Bordering on the Sacred
Curated by Edinburgh artists David Grossart and Carol Marples, this fascinating exhibition draws on specially selected works from artists across Scotland.
Young Composers’ Event
The third annual competition for young composers of sacred music concludes with this event in the historic setting of the royal Kirk of Holyrood House.

Exploring Sacred Space 3
Opened in 1542 as a Catholic Chapel for the fashionable area of Edinburgh's Cowgate, the Scottish Reformation of 1560 turned the Magdalen Chapel into the birthplace of Scottish Presbyterianism.
A Hymn on Divine Music: Britten’s Baroque Songs
Sam Madden, tenor and Will Sims, piano
Sam Madden and Will Sims conclude their critically acclaimed trilogy of recitals in the Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts with a concert of Baroque Songs in their realisations for tenor and piano by Benjamin Britten.

Christopher Marlowe’s Dr Faustus
A rehearsed reading of Christopher Marlowe’s famous tragedy starring Scottish actors Michael Daviot, Tim Barrow, Susan Chynoweth, Felicity Cullen and Lizz Spence and directed by Janet de Vigne.
Tuesday 6-7pm pre-performance discussion in St John’s hosted by the Scottish Network for Religion and Literature.

Old Saint Paul’s, home to Edinburgh’s oldest Episcopal congregation, has an astonishing War Memorial comprising an entrance to the church via a broad stone stair rising to an almost life-size sculpted Calvary.
