Tollcross is now an expensive place to live. When St Michael and All Saints was built, it was one of the poorest parts of the city. The church was founded for people with very little, yet nothing inside reflects that. Behind plain grey stone lies a lavish, uncompromising interior articulated in colour, gilding, and devotional imagery. Born of Anglicanism’s Oxford Movement, it offers unrationed splendour where it might least be expected. On this tour, the Rector Fr Oliver Brewer-Lennon invites visitors to discover a church that still startles, still contends, and still rewards close attention.
