Schola Cantorum, director Michael Ferguson

This concert takes its inspiration from the recent installation outside the Cathedral of Homeless Jesus, the bronze sculpture by Timothy Schmalz portraying Christ as a homeless man sleeping on a park bench. The Cathedral Schola Cantorum will contemplate homelessness and poverty through a programme of choral music that speaks of mercy, compassion, and hope. The evening will include Gavin Bryars’ iconic composition Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet, built around a haunting loop of an unknown homeless man singing a simple, improvised refrain. Through choral music, the concert will be an opportunity to reflect on Christ’s presence in the most marginalised of our society.

Sculptor Timothy Schmalz will be present for the concert, and will give a talk about his work next day — 11am on Tuesday 18 August in the Cathedral.  Free admission. All welcome.
