Introducing
Friends of the Edinburgh Sacred Arts Foundation

'The Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts in the Fringe began in 2018 with the purpose of bringing a new dimension to Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, enabling artists and audiences to draw on the rich, centuries old tradition of creativity in Christian music, visual art, sculpture, literature, drama and architecture. Starting with just five events in a single venue, it has grown rapidly, and EFSA 2023 will be the largest yet -- nineteen events in nine different city centre venues.
The week-long programme ranges across all the arts. There are exhibitions devoted to floral art, vestment making and icon painting. Recitals are scheduled every day, including music by great masters like Bach and Handel and the acclaimed contemporary composer Paul Mealor, as well as the work of four emerging young composers based in Edinburgh. There is poetry "strafed by light" in the context of Paolozzi’s millennium windows, and more poetry interspersed with the compelling music of Maurice Duruflé's Requiem. The newly formed drama group, Green Shoots Youth Theatre, will revitalize medieval mystery plays for a modern audience. Expert presentations will uncover the sacred use of art objects at the time of the Mary Queen of Scots, and open up the world of ecclesiastical heraldry.
The Edinburgh Festival of the Sacred Arts is organized by a registered charity -- The Edinburgh Sacred Arts Foundation. The festival's rapid growth makes this an auspicious time to announce the formation of a ‘Friends' organization. For an annual donation of £40, Friends of the Sacred Arts Foundation will enjoy:
50% of each donation to the Friends is devoted to sponsoring an innovative event at the Sacred Arts Festival. In 2023 the event is ‘The Mysteries – Reimagined’ five short plays by Peter Holloway to be performed by the newly established Green Shoots Youth Theatre.
Becoming a Friend is easy, with a simple online form and card payment. Just click on the JOIN NOW button. If you are a UK taxpayer, by filling in the ‘Gift Aid’ form you can increase the value of your donation by 25% at no cost to yourself.
